"Dirlewanger, one of the most disgusting Nazis (and people who ever lived), got what he deserved."
Dirlewanger got to run wild and pursue every depravity that he could imagine as a military officer commanding troops in the field for five years, and he didn't deserve that. That he was killed before he was stuck on the dock and tried and hanged like a common criminal by the Allies wasn't deserved either. His murder would fall under "Live like a gangster, die like a gangster". He recieved the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross which was the highest military decoration offered by National Socialist Germany, and he was wounded multiple times so there no indication that he was cowardly, just bat shit insane. He almost certainly deserved that medal because killing a lot of innocent civilians and terrorizing the population was part of the mission of the Wehrmacht.
Don't underestimate how that "herr doktor" title helped Dirlewanger literally get away with murder among other things. The Nazi leadership was full of PhDs. It's one of the most frightening things about them.
