Bicycle and public transportation rider here. I never stopped riding my bike during the pandemic since I was considered an "essential worker" and never missed a day at the jobsite. I ride a Surly 29er with fat tires in the winter, and of course I have the right clothing, so I bike commute year around. But the bike lanes and trails are pretty empty duing the winter months, because we have an actual cold, snowy winter where I live. This is one of the reasons why so few people commute by bicycle. A lot of people have good intentions, but then they stop riding to work when the cold and snow hits and start driving their car while getting into a routine that allows them to sleep in a little more and drink their coffee in the car, and you've lost them as bike commuters. The change to start cycling to work again in the spring is a real hard one, and they have to get their butt in shape again, and that is painful. If people don't bicycle all year, they're not really a cyclist. Many expensive new carbon bikes bought during the pandemic are sitting in the basement gathering dust with flat tires right now. It's easier to buy something, than to do it.
