Between 1996 and 2000, an average of 191 intentional church fires were set in the USA every year. Between 2010 and 2014 this had dropped to an average of 74 per year, which is still quite a lot. Churches are more likely than any other type of building to be subjected to arson. Most of these temple burnings remain unsolved, so there may be other motivations besides fame involved.
