Asians were certainly enslaved, which is why many Chinese fled to the USA. No one made the voyage here unless things were terrible in their homeland. The Koreans in Japan were enslaved by the Japanese, which is how many ended up in Japan! Many can't get citizenship, which is the real problem. I have a couple from Congo with their family living next door to me that got citizensip in a couple of years after immigrating.
I worked as a high school teacher with at-risk minority kids for over twenty years, and saw one after another ruin their life by having a kid or dropping out of school. It seems incredible to me that anyone could not see how those behaviors would derail a young person of any race's life, versus a kid that stays in school and doesn't have to worry about caring for a child.
