A previous poster on this thread called people who would surrender "lowly and pathetic", not me. To act like Ukraine was a wondrous fairyland of humble farmers before the war is delusional. Just because the Russians were wrong to launch an invasion on them doesn't mean that every thing coming out of the country's government can be trusted. Again, Ukraine was well known for scams before the war.

Last year a British gent got scammed for a quarter of a million dollars and the Odessa police weren't too interested in helping him to get his money back. That the scammers had over 60 people show up to be guests at the fake wedding is some impressive con artistry.

Now the big fear is that the human trafficking rings that were in place in Ukraine before the war will prey on refugees fleeing the fighting, which is still going on and on.
