A couple of things. First, it is not conservatives, or Republicans, or libertarians that go on and on about the amount of money that people make, or the wealth that people have. It is the Left, and to say otherwise is to lie or be deluded. The evil of wealthy people is a subject of multiple postings on Medium every frickin' day. People on the right don't care how much other people make or what they do with it, they just want their money left alone as much as possible.

Secondly, people are not imprisoned to punish them, it is is to remove them from society so they can't victimize other people, and I think you allude to that. For example, in 2019 there were 693K people in state prisons for violent crimes, including murder (177K), and rape/sexual assault (163K), and armed robbery (155K). Life is a living hell in prison because you are living with a lot of really bad people, see above. If you are in prison, there is a very good possibility that you did some bad things yourself.

By the way, it is estimated that Don Henley is worth a quarter of a billion dollars and is absolutely a beast on copyright laws lest some nobody listen to his song without paying him for the privilege, so spare me the fact that he doesn't love money.
