A bit under a year ago I visited the High Line in New York City. It's an elevated 1 1/4 mile long park on the West Wide in Lower Manhattan built on an abandoned elevated rail line built by Robert Moses in the 1930s. It begins at Hudson Yards and goes to 14th St between many remarkable buildings.. It is covered with outstanding landscaping, gardening, and art, and is open to the public. I walked down and back wondering at the beauty and ingenuity of it, and I did not see a speck of litter or a stroke of grafitti. Throngs of people from all over the World were visiting, and most of them were smiling and well dressed. I saw two police officers, and they were cheerfully answering questions. New York City itself has never looked so clean and beautiful. I saw Diane von Furstenberg!
While I was walking I felt like I was finally in the future, and so I was. No collapse was in evidence. Folks, your phone is not real life.
